Joint statement on the Pearse Surrender Letter

Monday 5th December 2016
Joint statement from Adam’s Auctioneers and Fr Adrian Curran Provincial Minister of the Capuchin Order in Ireland
This statement is issued to correct an article which appeared in the Irish Times, Saturday 3rd December.

The article was based on a letter sent to the Irish Times by the Provincial Minister on Nov 30th, only one line of which was quoted by them in the subsequent article (03 December 2016). They did not publish the letter itself. The main point of the Provincial Minister’s letter is to support the view that the Pearse Surrender note, if at all possible, should be preserved in Ireland for the Irish people. The Capuchin Order did not benefit from the sale of the document at any time.

Following a meeting with the auctioneer, the Provincial Minister is satisfied that he is in full possession of the facts surrounding the provenance of this letter and considers the matter closed.
