Consider Consecrated Life as a Capuchin Friar

A sincere word of thanks to the Irish Catholic Newspaper for their two page feature on the Irish Capuchins as part of a special edition on Consecrated Life.

What path has the Lord prepared for you?

Called to a life of Prayer and Service as Brothers of St Francis of Assisi

We are the Irish Capuchin Franciscan Friars and we have been ministering in Ireland since 1614 bringing with us the spirit of St Francis of Assisi.

Each Friar has responded to a call from God to live our way of life centred on the Eucharist, prayerful togetherness, compassionate service and active contemplation. We live our life as a  community of brothers. Sharing all we have with each other. This shared life keeps us grounded and attunded to the needs of today’s World. This is the Gospel life of St Francis.

To live a consecrated life means to dedicate your life to God and others. It means being open to the possibilities that committed discipleship brings and it also calls on us to live our lives in a way that serves as a beacon of hope in our World.

What qualities does a Friar need? Well we firstly need to be able to listen deeply to what’s going on inside of ourselves and to how the Spirit of God guides us. We also need to have hearts open to welcome the needs of others. We must be men of faith, hope and love who continually orientate themselves to God through prayer and the Eucharist. We must be ready to give all we are and all we have for God, to empty ourselves so that God may prepare us for a life of mission. We must be ready to roll up our selves and serve in whatever way is needed. This is the Gospel life of the Capuchin Franciscan Friar.

If you feel that the Lord is calling you to such a life we’d love to hear from you. If you’re a practicing Catholic man,  resident in Ireland and aged between 21 and 40 and would like to know more please email : vocations@capuchins.ie
