The Ordination of Br Antony – A day of hope.

Br Antony Kurian OFM Cap was ordained Deacon by Archbishop Dermot Farrell in St Mary of the Angels Capuchin Church Dublin on Sunday 28th of January 2024.

In his homily, Archbishop Farrell spoke of this day being ‘a day of hope’. He said that ‘any day you make a significant commitment is a day of hope… a day when hope is embodied’.

The Archbishop went on to recall how St Francis was a Deacon and as a Deacon, St Francis allowed the Word of Christ bear fruit in the World. ‘a deacon most authentically is: an icon of Christ—“an effective visible sign of Christ who came to serve rather than to be served.” (Dublin Diocesan Website) in these words the Archbishop summed up the essence of the Diaconal ministry.

Br Antony will serve the people of God in Church Street Friary and Halston Street Parish over the coming months as he continues to prepare for ordination to the Priesthood. The last ordination to Priesthood in our Province took place in 2016. This is indeed a day of hope fir

We wish Antony well in his ministry and pray that he will be guided and supported by the intercession of our Holy Father St Francis and Holy Mother St Clare.
