Blessings on the Feast of Saint Clare

Today we celebrate the feast of Saint Clare of Assisi. Clare was born in Assisi in 1193 and died on the 11th of August 1253. She was canonised in 1255. Clare is the founders of the ‘Poor Ladies of San Domino’ or the Poor Clare’s as we know them today. Clare is the patroness of television as well as those suffering from eye diseases.

Today the Poor Clare’s continue the life and work begun by Clare of Assisi. In Ireland they have monasteries in Carlow, Dublin, Leitrim, Galway, Clare, Belfast and Cork. In this short video you can see a little of what life is like at the Poor Clare Monastery in Galway.

We extend our warmest fraternal blessings to our Poor Clare sisters today and to all those who are inspired by the life of St Clare.
