Need a little festive cheer? Then the following is for you! Just a little reminder that the wonderful, (and extremely busy at this time of year), Dublin Gospel Choir will be singing this evening at the 7pm Mass in Church St. Friary, as this is the last Gospel Mass before Christmas there will…
Daycentre Christmas Collection!
We are delighted to announce that our annual Christmas collection for the Capuchin Daycentre on the streets of Dublin raised a massive €42,000 euro yesterday! On behalf of Brother Kevin, the friars, and the volunteers, and above all on behalf of the thousands of homeless and needy people who will benefit directly from these…
Night Fever comes to our Kilkenny Friary once again
With the so-called Christmas Rush upon us once again it can be hard to get space to remember the real meaning of these days. Butt behind the rush the slow gentle breathing of Advent, our time of preparation for the coming of Christ at Christmas, may be heard if we become quiet enough to hear….
PCO VIII: The Grace of Working
Taking place right now in Rome is the 8th Plenary Council of the Order. These councils happen periodically as the friars gather to discuss different aspects of our life together, always looking for ways in which we can become more faithful to the spirit of St. Francis and be more successful in our service…
Dawn Sitting: A decaf Moment
Dawn Sitting. To sit in stillness as dawn wakes, is a sacred joy. Keeping watch as first light illumines the heart’s altar, calling it from its flickering candled dream-darkness into the now, of awake awareness; is to dwell within a daily resurrection. Sitting still I allow Divine attention to breathe blessing through me upon…
Capuchin Franciscan Vocation Weekend 4th – 6th of December, Kilkenny
What is a vocation? Who are the Capuchin Franciscans? What do they do? Why do they do it? If you have asked questions like these, maybe God is inviting you to ‘come and see’ (John 1:39) what life is like as a Capuchin Franciscan Friar. This vocation experience is open to…
Haircuts for the Homeless: A new initiative of the Capuchin Daycentre
Br. Kevin and the staff of the Capuchin Daycentre were very happy to launch a new initiative in their ongoing mission to serve the homeless and poor of Dublin this weekend when their brand new barbers/hairsalon opened off Bow St. While at first it may seem a peripheral service to offer to those who find…
Capuchins respond to International Refugee Crisis
Hearing the plea of Pope Francis for the millions of refugees and immigrants entering Europe as they flee war, persecution and poverty in their own countries our General Minister Br. Mauro recently called an emergency meeting of friars to discuss ways that the Capuchins can offer an international response to this tragedy. Our Vicar Provincial,…
Autumnal Wood Wisdom: A decaf moment
Autumnal Wood Wisdom Enter slowly, and with reverence, the golden autumnal woods, and then, stopping beneath their vaulted sylvan sanctuary, allow their burnished beauty of bronzed leaf, polished nut, and, shining fruit to reflect deep eternal richness of Divine generosity, always gifting grace in each moment, of Heaven’s harvesting, to breathe its blessing through…

Early this morning over 3,000 people queued around Church Street and on to the door of the Capuchin Day Centre on Bow Street. Each waiting to receive a voucher to help them this time of year. Some good reporting on the event. Well done to all involved.

Episode 233 is out now!
Brother Richard Hendrick is a Capuchin Franciscan priest-friar, a mindfulness and meditation teacher, and a poet and author.
For over 20 years, he has worked to bring the insights of the Christian Contemplative tradition to wider public awareness, particularly in relation to modern mindfulness theory and has worked as a retreat giver and chaplain in various settings, including schools, hospitals, and prisons.
He is the author of two books about mindfulness and mediation and his poem ‘Lockdown’ went viral in the early months of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020 and was translated into twenty-six languages.
In this episode I chat to Brother Richard about why he decided to join the priesthood, his path to becoming a monk and the origins of the Capuchin Franciscan brotherhood.
We chat about the difference between meaning and purpose, how to find meaning in all aspects of life, facing our own mortality and looking for answers to life’s big questions.
We also chat about small acts of service, getting curious, the importance of differentiating between self-centeredness and self-compassion and how to cultivate compassion for ourselves as well as others.
This conversation with Brother Richard had quite a profound effect on me and I’ve found myself coming back to it several times since we spoke.
I can’t wait to hear what you take from it if you choose to listen!
